Zambia’s U20 team claimed the COSAFA Championship title after defeating Mozambique in the final match.
Zambia finished the tournament with a perfect score of 12 points from four matches. They needed to win their last game against Mozambique to clinch the championship title. The team showed strong performance and solid defense during the entire event.
In the final match, Zambia faced a setback when their key player, Jessy Zulu, got injured and had to leave the game in the 11th minute. Ruth Muwowo stepped in to replace her and made a significant impact. Muwowo ended up being one of the top scorers in the tournament, sharing the Golden Boot award with another player.
Zambia’s only goal in the match came just before halftime, scored by midfielder Zangose Zulu. This goal was crucial, and the team maintained their lead to secure the championship trophy.
The tournament took place at the UJ Stadium in Soweto, and Zambia’s victory was celebrated by fans and supporters. South Africa finished in second place, while Mozambique took third. Lesotho and Botswana completed the top five teams in the tournament.
In addition to the championship title, Zambia’s goalkeeper, Mwila Mufunte, received the Golden Glove award for her outstanding performance. She managed to keep a clean sheet in every match, showcasing her skills and helping her team succeed.
Muwowo and South Africa’s Adrielle Mibe both scored four goals, earning them the Golden Boot award. Lesotho was recognized for their sportsmanship and received the Fair Play award for their efforts during the tournament.
