West Ham United is reportedly looking at four potential managers to succeed Julen Lopetegui after a tough defeat against Leicester City

London: West Ham United is facing a tough decision regarding their manager, Julen Lopetegui. Following a disappointing 3-1 loss to Leicester City, the pressure on Lopetegui has increased significantly. Reports suggest that the club may choose to part ways with him before their next match against Wolves.
When Lopetegui took over from David Moyes in the summer, there were high hopes for the team. The club invested £120 million in new players, aiming for a strong push for European qualification. However, after 14 games, West Ham finds itself just six points above the relegation zone, far from their initial goals.
During the match against Leicester, fans expressed their frustration with chants of “sacked in the morning.” Lopetegui had been tasked with earning four points from two matches, but the loss against Leicester made that goal impossible.
After the game, Lopetegui reflected on the team’s performance, saying, “We had many chances, but if you don’t score, you have to take more risks in the second half. A good team takes advantage of that.” His comments highlight the challenges the team is facing.
Despite Lopetegui’s well-known tactical skills, his defensive and possession-heavy style has not resonated with fans or players. So far, his time at West Ham has resulted in only four league wins and seven defeats, leaving the team’s ambitions in jeopardy.
Sources indicate that the club’s board is already considering potential replacements for Lopetegui. Names mentioned include Edin Terzic, who previously worked as an assistant at West Ham, Roger Schmidt from Benfica, and Max Allegri. Graham Potter is also reportedly in the mix.
If Lopetegui is let go, the club seems inclined to hire a manager who is currently without a job to ensure a smooth transition. Terzic’s familiarity with the club could be beneficial, while Allegri’s extensive experience is also appealing. However, language barriers and different coaching styles could pose challenges.
Lopetegui remains hopeful, stating, “We are able to change the situation for sure. I believe in the players and the team.” However, his optimism does little to ease the growing concerns among fans at the London Stadium.
Initially, there was excitement about Lopetegui’s arrival, but that has turned into frustration due to lackluster performances and rigid tactics. Fans expected a manager of his caliber to elevate the team, not leave them struggling to avoid relegation.
Many supporters feel that the defensive weaknesses and lack of attacking flow are not just bad luck but reflect a system that fails to inspire confidence. The summer spending spree raised expectations, but several new signings have not made the impact that was hoped for.
Moreover, Lopetegui’s conservative style contrasts sharply with the high-energy play that fans wanted to see. While Moyes’ approach faced criticism, it at least provided some stability and results. Under Lopetegui, West Ham seems to lack both.
Looking ahead, fans might view a managerial change as the best option. Names like Terzic and Allegri are intriguing, but the club must be careful not to rush into another appointment that does not solve existing problems. Many hope for a manager who understands the league’s demands and the cultural expectations of West Ham, something Lopetegui has yet to achieve.
