Olympique Lyonnais faces financial issues but holds out for fair player prices.
Lyon needs to sell some players to meet the financial rules. Still, they want to get what they think is a fair price. They are also worried about the risk of being dropped to Ligue 2, so fixing their money problems is very important.
To solve these issues, they might have to sell important players like Rayan Cherki and Malick Fofana. They may have to accept lower prices than what these players are worth in the winter transfer window.
Cherki recently signed a two-year contract extension in September, which gives Lyon some power in talks. However, reports suggest that a move for him in January is still very likely.
Cherki has always dreamed of playing for Real Madrid, but Liverpool and Paris Saint-Germain are also watching his situation closely.
West Ham United is now interested in Rayan Cherki. Tim Steidten, the technical director for West Ham, has been looking at players in Ligue 1. Reports say that Cherki is one of the players they like.
West Ham has been keeping an eye on Cherki since December 2023. The 21-year-old player’s contract runs until the summer of 2026. Recently, it was reported that Liverpool’s £17 million offer for Cherki is likely to be turned down. Lyon is asking for £29 million instead.
