West Bromwich Albion faces challenges but hopes to improve in their upcoming match.
The Baggies have only won once in their last eleven matches. This poor run started with a 3-2 loss to Sheffield Wednesday on September 28, when they were at the top of the league. However, they are currently unbeaten in their last five away games, including a draw against Sunderland on Tuesday.
Furlong’s return is a boost for the team after he missed one game due to a suspension for receiving five yellow cards. They may also have centre-back Kyle Bartley back for his first start in eight games. Coach Carlos Corberan mentioned that Bartley is feeling better after playing in the second half against Sunderland.
Unfortunately, the team is still missing some key players. Summer signing Ousmane Diakite is out with a knee injury, and winger Grady Diangana is sidelined due to a calf issue. Defenders Semi Ajayi and Paddy McNair are also unavailable. Ajayi had surgery on a hamstring injury and will be out for four months, while McNair is expected to miss eight weeks with a similar injury.
The Baggies have struggled to score goals, netting only four times at home this season. Striker Daryl Dike is also out, with hopes of returning in January after recovering from a ruptured Achilles tendon.
Corberan expressed his frustration at a press conference when asked about fan concerns. He stated that he does not focus on negativity or positivity, as it could distract him from his work. He reminded everyone of the team’s position when he took over in October 2022, which was 23rd in the table.
The upcoming match against Preston will mark Corberan’s 103rd game in charge of Albion, surpassing his previous record of 102 games with Huddersfield Town. The team hopes to turn their fortunes around and secure a much-needed victory.
