Roberto De Zerbi announces that Valentin Rongier will play against AS Monaco this weekend.
Rongier, who is 29 years old, recently started in a match where Marseille won 3-1 against RC Lens. This was only his second start of the season. De Zerbi changed the team’s formation to a 3-5-2, allowing Rongier to play alongside Pierre-Emille Højbjerg and Adrien Rabiot in the midfield.
Rongier’s return to the team has been slow due to a serious injury. He spent most of the previous season recovering from a broken kneecap. He only began to play again during the preseason and made his first appearance as a substitute under De Zerbi.
The coach has spoken highly of Rongier, saying he brings unique skills to the team. De Zerbi mentioned that Rongier helps maintain order in the midfield. He acknowledged that it took time for Rongier to regain his form after being out for eight months due to injuries.
De Zerbi also expressed his admiration for Rongier, recalling his time at Brighton and how much he valued the player’s abilities. The coach believes that Rongier is an important part of the team and is glad to have him back on the field.
