Rome: In a recent interview, Roma’s sporting director, Florent Ghisolfi, expressed his frustration with the refereeing in Serie A. He pointed out several incidents where he believes the referees made mistakes that hurt his team.

Ghisolfi mentioned seven specific incidents that he labeled as “confirmed errors.” The first incident occurred during Roma’s second match of the season against Empoli, where they lost 2-1. Eldor Shomurodov was held back in the penalty area after Paulo Dybala hit the post, which could have led to a penalty for Roma.

In another match against Genoa, Ghisolfi suggested that Roma should have received a penalty when Koni De Winter made contact with Dybala in the box. This incident happened during a 1-1 draw.

There was also a potential penalty in a match against Monza. Tommaso Baldanzi was brought down by Giorgos Kyriakopoulos late in the game, but no penalty was awarded.

Ghisolfi also pointed out a controversial penalty awarded to Fiorentina in their 5-1 victory over Roma. He claimed that Edoardo Bove was brought down without any actual contact from Zeki Celik.

In a match against Verona, Ghisolfi noted two possible fouls during a corner kick that led to Verona’s second goal. One involved an elbow on Evan Ndicka, and the other involved Grigoris Castanos and goalkeeper Mile Svilar.

Lastly, Ghisolfi highlighted two incidents involving Romelu Lukaku during a recent match against Napoli. Lukaku was involved in a reckless challenge on Celik and a sliding tackle on Svilar, which could have warranted yellow cards.

As a result of the decisions made during the Napoli match, referee Davide Massa has been suspended for one game. Ghisolfi’s comments reflect a growing concern about the quality of officiating in Serie A and the need for improvements.
