Manchester: The 2024 FIFA Best Awards have announced their nominees. Manchester City’s Rodri and Erling Haaland are the only players from the Premier League in the best male player category. Their nominations come after Manchester City made history by winning four league titles in a row.

Jude Bellingham, a midfielder for Real Madrid and England, is also nominated. He is one of 11 players in the running for the award, which mainly features players from Spain. Lionel Messi, who won the award in 2023, is the only nominee playing outside of Europe.

Rodri, who won the Ballon d’Or, is a strong candidate for the award. However, he will face tough competition from Vinicius Jr of Real Madrid, who was the runner-up in the voting last October. Bellingham, at just 21 years old, hopes to be the first male English player to win this FIFA award.

The winner will be chosen through a voting system that includes fans, current team captains and coaches from all national teams, and media representatives.

In addition to the player nominations, Manchester City’s coach Pep Guardiola is nominated for coach of the year again. He won this award in 2023. Other nominees include Carlo Ancelotti from Real Madrid, Xabi Alonso from Bayer Leverkusen, Lionel Scaloni from Argentina, and Luis de la Fuente from Spain.

For the goalkeeper of the year award, Arsenal’s David Raya, Manchester City’s Ederson, and Aston Villa’s Emiliano Martinez are nominated. Other nominees include Andriy Lunin from Real Madrid, Gianluigi Donnarumma from Paris St-Germain, Mike Maignan from AC Milan, and Unai Simon from Athletic Bilbao.
