Real Madrid is having a tough time in the Champions League this season.

In between these wins, Real Madrid lost to Lille, which was a surprise. They also lost their fourth match against AC Milan. The situation worsened when they played against Liverpool and lost 2-0 at Anfield.
These results have left Real Madrid in 24th place in the UCL rankings. This is the last position that allows a team to qualify for the Round of 16 through a playoff match. The new format of the competition means that only the top 8 teams will move directly to the next round.
Teams ranked from 9 to 24 will have to play a playoff, while those from 25 to 36 will be eliminated. Real Madrid has only 6 points so far, making it very hard for them to finish in the top 8. The lowest-ranked team in that group, Monaco, has 10 points.
The competition for the 8th spot is tough, with strong teams like Bayern Munich, Manchester City, and Atletico Madrid also in the running. Real Madrid’s upcoming matches will not be easy either. They will face Atalanta next, a team known for its strong attack.
After that, they will play against RB Salzburg and Brest, both of which could be challenging. To stay in the competition, Real Madrid needs to win at least two of these three matches. If they fail, they could drop even lower than their current position, which would mean they won’t make it to the Round of 16.
This would be a significant disappointment, as it has never happened in the UCL era. After the loss to Liverpool, coach Ancelotti expressed confidence in a press conference. However, achieving the needed results will be difficult, as their past performances in the UCL have shown.
