Real Madrid is looking to strengthen its squad this January by targeting Liverpool’s Trent Alexander-Arnold as a key addition to their defense.
The club has concerns about relying only on Lucas Vazquez for this position in the second half of the season. While Vazquez has been dependable, the team feels they need more options and quality in defense.
Reports indicate that Real Madrid’s interest in Alexander-Arnold is serious. After a recent match at Anfield, representatives from both clubs had discussions, and Liverpool acknowledged Madrid’s interest.
Liverpool is calm for now, especially with Conor Bradley emerging as a potential replacement for Alexander-Arnold. However, they are preparing for the possibility of losing their talented player.
It has also been reported that Liverpool reached out to Real Madrid weeks ago. They wanted to know if Madrid’s interest in Alexander-Arnold was real or just a tactic to push for better contract terms, as his current deal ends in June.
These talks have continued, and sources suggest that a move for Alexander-Arnold to Real Madrid is becoming more likely. Many fans can already picture him wearing the famous white jersey.
Real Madrid urgently needs a specialist right-back. The club understands that depending on Vazquez and occasional help from Federico Valverde in defense is not a long-term solution.
Valverde’s role in defense also takes away from his effectiveness in midfield, where he is crucial for creating plays. Moreover, the academy does not have a ready player with enough experience to fill this role right away, although there are promising young talents for the future.
