Newcastle United plans to change its squad, with Miguel Almiron likely to depart soon.
The team was careful with its spending last summer because of problems with Profit and Sustainability Rules. Now that those issues are resolved, fans can expect new players to join and some current players to leave.
One player who is likely to leave is winger Miguel Almiron. Reports suggest he will depart during the January transfer window. Almiron, who plays for Paraguay, has only started one game in the Premier League this season.
He has fallen behind other players like Anthony Gordon, Harvey Barnes, and Jacob Murphy in the team’s lineup. Coach Eddie Howe has not used Almiron much this season, and he seems ready to find a new opportunity elsewhere.
Almiron, who is 30 years old, has a contract with Newcastle that runs until 2026. His deal includes a £60 million release clause. However, any team interested in signing him is unlikely to pay that much.
Almiron played a key role in helping Newcastle qualify for the Champions League two seasons ago. He is now attracting interest from teams in the Saudi Pro League and Major League Soccer.
Earlier this summer, Almiron almost left Newcastle but could not agree on personal terms for a move to Saudi Arabia. As Newcastle looks to strengthen its squad, they are also linked with a potential signing of former Real Madrid defender Sergio Ramos.
