Maurizio Sarri reflects on his time at Chelsea, naming a surprising player as crucial to his success. He shares insights on injuries and future hopes for the player.
Sarri was in charge of Chelsea during the 2019/20 season. He led the team to win the Europa League and secured a third-place finish in the Premier League. After that season, he moved to Juventus.
Looking back, Sarri feels he made a mistake by leaving Chelsea. Even though he won Serie A with Juventus in his first year, he still has fond memories of his time at Stamford Bridge.
Many fans remember Sarri for his unique style of play, often called ‘Sarriball.’ He also brought in Jorginho, a player who later helped Chelsea win the Champions League.
When asked about his most important players, fans might think of Jorginho or Eden Hazard. However, Sarri surprised everyone by naming a different player. He spoke to The Sun and shared his thoughts on the players he valued.
Sarri mentioned several players, including David Luiz and Antonio Rudiger. But he emphasized that Ruben Loftus-Cheek was the most important player for him during that season. He said Loftus-Cheek was “very, very important” and believed he could have achieved even more.
Unfortunately, Loftus-Cheek’s season ended prematurely due to a serious injury. He ruptured his Achilles tendon during a friendly match against New England Revolution. This injury significantly affected his career at Chelsea.
At that time, Loftus-Cheek was performing well and building a strong connection with Eden Hazard. Sarri noted that the injury was a major setback for the young midfielder. He explained that it took Loftus-Cheek a long time to recover and return to his previous level of play.
Despite the challenges, Sarri remains hopeful for Loftus-Cheek’s future. He believes the midfielder has the potential to reach great heights in his career.
Currently, Loftus-Cheek is playing in Italy for AC Milan. He has become an important part of the team, joining former Chelsea players like Tammy Abraham, Fikayo Tomori, and Christian Pulisic.
As Sarri looks to return to coaching, there is a possibility he may want to work with Loftus-Cheek again in the future.
