Manchester United aims to strengthen their squad in January, focusing on key player positions.
To fix the issues left by former manager Erik ten Hag, they plan to make some changes. Former chief scout Mick Brown mentioned that the team is not focusing on getting a new left-back right now. Instead, they will look at other areas that need improvement.
Brown explained that while they are considering new left-backs, it is not their main concern. He said, “Yes, they’ve been looking for new options at left-back, but it’s not at the top of their list of priorities.”
He added that there are other positions that need attention based on what Amorim has available. Currently, Diogo Dalot and Noussair Mazraoui have been playing in the left-back position. The return of Luke Shaw is a big help, especially if he can stay healthy.
Shaw is an important player for both Manchester United and the England national team. Malacia is also back from injury and will get a chance to show his skills. Brown mentioned that Harry Amass is a young player they have high hopes for.
With Shaw and Malacia fit again, Manchester United can change their approach to the transfer window. They now feel confident to focus on other positions instead of rushing to find a new left-back.
Since both Mazraoui and Dalot can also play left-back, the team might look to sign a new attacker or midfielder instead. In defense, they have plenty of options, but they need more strength in their attack.
Currently, Rasmus Hojlund is the only forward performing well at Old Trafford. Joshua Zirkzee has not made a strong impact, and Casemiro and Christian Eriksen are not at their best anymore. This situation shows that while they have depth in defense, they need to improve their attacking options.
