Maguire has been injured since a match against Aston Villa in October. He participated in an open training session recently but was not fit enough to play in the Europa League game against Bodo/Glimt.
It is still uncertain if he will be ready for the Premier League match against Everton. If he can recover, he could be a strong option for the team’s defense under the new manager, Ruben Amorim.
In the new system, Maguire could play an important role in a three-man defense. So far, Matthijs de Ligt has been playing in that position for Amorim. Maguire’s skills and experience could be valuable for the team.
Amorim has mentioned that rotating players will be important to keep the team fresh, especially with a busy schedule coming up. Maguire might perform better in a three-man defense rather than a traditional four-man setup.
This formation allows him to have two other defenders beside him, which means he won’t have to cover as much ground. This setup also helps protect him from fast attackers.
