Manchester United is looking to sign a new midfielder as Christian Eriksen’s contract ends.
Reports from journalist Florian Plettenberg suggest that Christian Eriksen will leave the club when the season ends. Eriksen is in the last year of his contract, and the team does not plan to renew it.
The club is actively searching for a new midfielder to strengthen their squad. They are considering options for a player who can play as a number six or eight, or even an attacking midfielder.
This season, Eriksen has been a key player under coach Erik ten Hag. He has played 14 matches, scoring four goals and providing three assists. However, he earns around £150,000 weekly, and his style may not fit with Amorim’s plans.
Amorim prefers a 3-4-3 formation, which requires players to be energetic and press hard. While Eriksen has great skills in creating chances, he may not have the speed and fitness needed for this system.
At 32 years old, Eriksen is not getting younger, and the club believes it is time to look for a younger player. They might find someone in their mid-20s who can adapt to the 3-4-3 style.
A new midfielder is expected to earn less than Eriksen, especially since INEOS paid a high amount for only one player this summer. The team already has Bruno Fernandes and Mason Mount, who can play as attacking midfielders.
Bringing in a new number six or eight who can play at the base of midfield would be a smart move for Manchester United.
