Manchester United plans to sign a new midfielder as Christian Eriksen is set to leave.
Eriksen’s exit will save the club around £7.8 million in wages each year. This money could be used to bring in a midfielder who is in the prime of his career. Reports suggest that United is keeping a close eye on Ederson from Atalanta. He is seen as a perfect fit for the team.
Last summer, Ederson was a top target for United, but Atalanta rejected a £42 million offer. Instead, United signed Manuel Ugarte from Paris Saint-Germain. Ugarte had a slow start but is now improving under manager Ruben Amorim, who previously coached him at Sporting CP.
Despite Ugarte’s progress, Amorim may want another strong midfielder. Ederson can play both defensive and central roles, making him a great option. This season, he has completed 88% of his passes and averages five recoveries and five duels won per game. He has also contributed three goals in Serie A.
Ederson and Ugarte could work well together, providing the team with more defensive strength. Atalanta is expected to ask for £50 million for Ederson next summer. United is reportedly interested and should support their manager with this investment.
Bringing in Ederson could also lead to Casemiro’s departure. The Brazilian midfielder will enter the final year of his contract next summer, with an option for another year. If a lucrative offer comes from the Saudi Pro League, United might consider selling him.
This potential move highlights United’s strategy to strengthen their midfield and adapt to changes in their squad.
