Liverpool: Former defender Neil Ruddock is optimistic that Mohamed Salah will sign a new contract with the club. Salah, who has been in outstanding form this season, has already scored 13 goals and provided 11 assists in just 20 matches.
The 32-year-old forward shows no signs of slowing down. Ruddock believes that it makes more sense for Liverpool to keep Salah rather than spend £60-70 million on a new player. He feels confident that an agreement will be reached before Salah’s current contract expires in June next year.
Ruddock mentioned that Salah has received a contract offer, but it may not be what he desires. He noted that Liverpool is smart in their negotiations and won’t be pressured by any player, including Salah. Ruddock emphasized that losing a talent like Salah would be a significant loss for the team.
He pointed out that replacing Salah would be nearly impossible, given his exceptional skills and current form. Ruddock believes Salah can continue performing at a high level for several more seasons, making it financially wiser for the club to extend his contract rather than pursue a costly replacement.
Salah has been a consistent performer, contributing goals and assists despite managerial changes. Liverpool lacks a direct replacement for him, making it a logical decision to retain him for another year or two, especially with a potential pay raise from his current £350,000 weekly salary.
Currently, there is no agreement between Salah and the club, but discussions could progress soon. Starting in January, Salah will be able to negotiate with foreign clubs, which adds urgency for Liverpool to finalize a deal with him.
Additionally, Liverpool faces similar contract situations with Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold, whose contracts also end next summer. Securing extensions by January would help avoid distractions during the Premier League title race later in the season.
