Liverpool is eyeing Martin Zubimendi as Manchester City struggles with injuries and poor form.
A major issue for City is the injury to Rodri, their key defensive midfielder. He got hurt in a match against Arsenal in September. Rodri is considered one of the best in his position and was recently named the best player in the world. His absence has significantly affected City’s performance.
Due to Rodri’s injury, City is now looking to sign new players in January. Reports suggest they are interested in Martin Zubimendi and Adam Wharton from Crystal Palace. Initially, City planned to wait until summer to find a new midfielder, but Rodri’s injury has pushed them to act sooner.
Zubimendi is a top choice for City because he is one of the most wanted defensive midfielders. Liverpool is also interested in him, even though they have Ryan Gravenberch on their team. Wharton, on the other hand, has not played much recently due to an operation, and his value has dropped.
Crystal Palace may not want to sell Wharton in January as they try to avoid relegation. However, there is a belief that he will eventually move to a bigger club if he continues to improve. Liverpool had also shown interest in Wharton earlier, valuing him at £100 million.
For City, finding a replacement for Rodri is crucial. They may need both Zubimendi and Wharton to fill the gap left by Rodri. Other players have struggled to perform in his absence. Mateo Kovacic did not impress before his injury, and while Zubimendi played well in a recent match, he could not fully replace Rodri’s impact.
If Liverpool continues to perform strongly, they may intensify their pursuit of Zubimendi, adding more pressure on City during this challenging time.
