Liverpool is looking at potential replacements for Trent Alexander-Arnold as contract talks loom.
Recently, there was a rumored meeting between Liverpool’s directors and Real Madrid to discuss Alexander-Arnold’s future. While it’s unclear if this meeting happened, it shows that Liverpool has a lot to figure out quickly.
To prepare for any changes, Richard Hughes and his team are already looking for new talent. They have added Jeremie Frimpong from Bayer Leverkusen to their list of possible replacements if Alexander-Arnold leaves.
Christian Falk reported that Liverpool is interested in Frimpong because of the uncertainty surrounding Alexander-Arnold’s contract. If Alexander-Arnold decides to move to Real Madrid, Liverpool will need a strong right-back.
Frimpong has been performing well at Leverkusen and was previously on Manchester United’s radar. However, United has since signed another player, making Frimpong a more viable option for Liverpool. His contract has a release clause of about £33.3 million, making him an attractive target.
Currently, Alexander-Arnold is sidelined due to a hamstring injury he suffered during a match against Aston Villa. He has contributed two assists in 15 games this season.
The big question remains whether Alexander-Arnold will sign a new contract. Jude Bellingham, a potential future teammate, has not commented on the possibility of Alexander-Arnold joining him in Madrid.
Carlo Ancelotti, the Real Madrid coach, also avoided discussing Alexander-Arnold’s future. While things can change quickly in football, it seems likely that Alexander-Arnold may seek a new challenge this summer. His ambition to win the Ballon d’Or as a fullback suggests he might be looking toward Spain.
