Liverpool aims to extend their lead in the Premier League against struggling Manchester City.
Manchester City has been struggling lately, failing to win in their last six matches. They have lost five of those games across all competitions. Despite this, Liverpool knows they must not underestimate their opponents.
Liverpool comes into this match after a solid 2-0 victory against Real Madrid in the Champions League. This win gives them confidence, making it a good time to face Pep Guardiola’s team.
In goal, Alisson has returned to training but is not fully fit yet. Caoimhin Kelleher, who performed well by saving a penalty from Kylian Mbappe recently, is expected to start against City.
In defense, Liverpool may miss both Conor Bradley and Ibrahima Konate due to injuries. Bradley could be out for about four weeks, while Konate might be sidelined for a longer period. Fortunately, Trent Alexander-Arnold is back to full fitness and likely to start at right-back.
Arne Slot may choose to play experienced Joe Gomez alongside Virgil van Dijk in central defense. With Kostas Tsimikas also injured, Andy Robertson is expected to keep his place in the lineup.
In midfield, Ryan Gravenberch is seen as essential to Liverpool’s style of play and is unlikely to be dropped. Alexis MacAllister is also expected to play, but Curtis Jones might be replaced by Dominik Szoboszlai for this match. Slot has been rotating these players to keep them fresh.
In the attack, Diogo Jota is still recovering and may not start, allowing Darwin Nunez to continue in his place. Cody Gakpo scored in the last match, but Slot is likely to stick with Luis Diaz on the left and Mohamed Salah on the right.
The predicted Liverpool lineup against Manchester City is Kelleher; Alexander-Arnold, Van Dijk, Gomez, Robertson; Gravenberch, MacAllister, Szoboszlai; Diaz, Salah, Nunez.
