Liverpool is worried about injuries to two players ahead of a big game.
Manager Arne Slot gave an update on Thursday. He said their condition is still uncertain as the medical team checks on them. Bradley had to leave the game in the second half after he seemed to hurt his hamstring. Konate looked uncomfortable at the end of the match and could not join his teammates in celebrating.
Slot mentioned that these injuries are not good signs but did not rule them out for the weekend. He told reporters, “They are still being assessed, so it’s difficult to say where they are. Conor had to come off, and Ibou didn’t leave the pitch as he should after such a fantastic performance. It’s never a good sign when this happens, but we’ll see in the coming days.”
If Bradley cannot play, Trent Alexander-Arnold is likely to take his place. Alexander-Arnold, who missed the start against Real Madrid, was on the bench but is now fit to play against City. Slot confirmed, “Yes, Trent is ready to start.”
Liverpool will enter the match on Sunday with a chance to lead Manchester City by 11 points. Even though City has had a tough start to the season, Slot warned against being too relaxed. He emphasized the depth of the Liverpool squad, which has been important during injury troubles.
“This is what happens in a season,” Slot said. “We missed Trent, Jota, and Alisson against Madrid. But whenever someone has stepped in, they have performed. If Conor and Ibou can’t play, others will step up on Sunday.”
The victory over Real Madrid kept Liverpool’s perfect record in Europe, marking their fifth win in five games. This was also their first win against the reigning champions since 2009.
Bradley and Konate played key roles in a strong defense, which included a penalty save by backup goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher. As Liverpool prepares for this important Premier League match, they hope their injury issues do not affect their strong performance.
