Liverpool and Manchester City are both looking for new left-backs to strengthen their teams.
For Liverpool, Andy Robertson has struggled lately. His recent game against Real Madrid was particularly tough, as he gave away a penalty. Although Caomhin Kelleher saved the penalty from Kylian Mbappe, it highlighted Robertson’s decline in form.
Meanwhile, Manchester City’s Josko Gvardiol has also faced criticism. In a Champions League match against Feyenoord, City lost a three-goal lead, and Gvardiol was involved in two of the goals conceded.
Both teams have recognized the need for a new left-back. Reports suggest they are interested in Matteo Ruggeri, a defender from Atalanta. Ruggeri has caught the attention of several Premier League clubs, including Manchester United.
All these clubs have scouted Ruggeri and are impressed with his skills. However, Atalanta is not looking to sell him during the January transfer window.
Currently, Manchester City seems to be in the lead for Ruggeri’s signature. The young Italian defender is known for his strong defense and good passing, qualities that both Liverpool and Man City value.
Liverpool is also considering another option for their left-back position. They are looking at Fulham’s Antonee Robinson. However, they may face competition from Manchester City for him as well.
With both clubs eager to improve their squads, the search for a new left-back continues. They will need to explore other options if Atalanta remains firm on keeping Ruggeri.
