Yoro, who was signed for £52 million, had to undergo foot surgery after breaking a bone during pre-season. He has yet to play in a competitive match for the team.
After three weeks of training, Amorim believes the 19-year-old defender is ready to join the squad. However, he wants to be cautious with Yoro’s return.
Amorim stated, “I feel he is in a good moment now, his fitness is better, so I think he is going to be in the squad.” He emphasized the need for careful management as Yoro has not trained extensively with the team.
The coach praised Yoro’s speed and modern defensive skills, which align with his strategy of playing a high defensive line. He believes Yoro can handle one-on-one situations effectively.
“I think he is very good with the ball. I am really excited. We have to manage the loads and minutes in the beginning, but I am really excited to see Leny Yoro playing,” Amorim added.
With Lisandro Martinez suspended, Yoro might get the chance to start, although Amorim is likely to choose Luke Shaw for his first start since February.
Amorim also addressed the fans, asking them not to sing a chant made for him. He wants the focus to remain on the players and the club.
“I don’t like my chant. I want them to support the team and the players because they are on the pitch, and I’m outside the pitch,” he explained.
He appreciates the connection with the supporters but knows that results are essential to maintain that bond.
On Monday, Amorim held a meeting at Old Trafford to foster a stronger team spirit. He aims to connect everyone at the club, from staff to players, to create a closer relationship between Carrington and the stadium.
