Marco Baroni expresses frustration after Lazio’s draw with Ludogorets in Europa League.
Lazio had been doing well in the tournament, winning their first four matches. They had several chances to score, including a shot from Matteo Guendouzi that hit the crossbar. The team was hopeful for a penalty when the referee was called to review a foul on Gustav Isaksen.
However, the referee, Duje Strukan, decided not to change his mind after looking at the video. Baroni expressed his anger during a press conference, saying he could not congratulate the referee for his performance. He felt the referee should have shown better sportsmanship.
Baroni pointed out that his team was attacking more and received six yellow cards compared to Ludogorets’ two. He felt this showed a lack of fairness in the game. He was disappointed that they only got one point after playing well.
Ludogorets had struggled in their previous Europa League matches, earning only one point. Baroni noted that it was tough to play against a team that focused solely on defending. He mentioned that there was little space to attack, as Ludogorets had many defenders on the field.
While Baroni did not want to criticize Ludogorets too harshly, he felt they did not play well that day. He appreciated that his team was upset after the match, as it showed they wanted to win. A draw felt disappointing for them.
Lazio is now waiting to see if they will remain at the top of their group in the Europa League. Baroni stated that their goal is to finish in the top eight.
President Claudio Lotito was angry about the decision to ban Lazio fans from the next away game against Ajax due to security concerns. Baroni, however, chose not to focus on that issue. He believes they can still win in Amsterdam, regardless of the situation.
In terms of injuries, Baroni mentioned that Boulaye Dia sprained his ankle, Matias Vecino had a muscle issue, and Pedro was feeling tired. The team will need to manage these injuries as they prepare for their upcoming matches.
