He recalled, “I remember we had been in the game for 20 minutes. I realized that France had a problem in the middle, they left people there loose.” This insight helped him position himself perfectly for the goal.
Yamal described the play leading up to his goal. He said, “Nacho gives it to Dani (Olmo) and I’m lucky that the rebound falls to Morata and the ball reaches me.” He paused to assess the situation, considering passing to Morata but ultimately deciding to take the shot himself.
He explained, “Inside I thought I was going to give it to Morata, but I don’t know what goes through my head that I said to myself: ‘No, stop’.” This decision led to a powerful strike that caught everyone by surprise.
Interestingly, Yamal faced Rabiot just before scoring. He felt a surge of determination when he saw Rabiot give him a bit of space. “I had so much anger in my body that I hit it with everything, with all my strength,” he said.
