A new documentary reveals a funny story about Lamine Yamal before a big match.
Madrid: A new documentary series called “Un equipo llamado España” will showcase the Spanish national football team’s journey during the 2024 UEFA European Championship in Germany. It will highlight memorable moments from the tournament, including the semifinal match against France.
One of the standout stories shared by Prime Video and the Spanish Football Federation features Barcelona winger Lamine Yamal and Athletic Club’s Nico Williams. Nico recalls a funny moment that happened on the bus before the semifinal match.
As they traveled to the Allianz Arena, Nico was feeling nervous about the big game. Meanwhile, Lamine, who was just 16 at the time, was fast asleep in the back of the bus. Nico thought it was surprising that Lamine could sleep before such an important match.
Nico said, “We were going to play the semifinal of EURO 2024, and on the way to the game I was feeling terrified and Lamine Yamal was… asleep! I thought to myself, how can he fall asleep before such an important game? This kid…”
The images from the bus ride show how relaxed Lamine was, even at such a young age. His calmness continued on the field, where he played a key role in Spain’s victory. He scored a stunning long-range goal that helped Spain come back and win against France.
Lamine’s performance earned him the title of Best Young Player of the Tournament. His success at the Euros also led him to win the Kopa Trophy and the Golden Boy award.
The documentary will cover Spain’s successful run to their fourth European Championship title, defeating strong teams like Italy, Croatia, Germany, France, and England.
Fans can watch the series on Prime Video starting November 29, available in over 200 countries.
