Juventus managed to keep Aston Villa’s Ollie Watkins quiet in a recent match.
Juventus was concerned about Ollie Watkins, who had scored in his last two games. The 28-year-old striker has been in great form, netting 33 goals for Aston Villa since last season. However, Juventus successfully limited his impact during the match.
Watkins only managed two shots and had 22 touches before being substituted in the 77th minute. Motta was happy to see his team effectively stop Villa’s counter-attacks, which often involved Watkins.
Motta described the match as a safe point for his team. He compared it to playing against a strong team like Milan, noting that both teams have similar strategies. He acknowledged that Villa is quick on the counter-attack and often looks for Watkins in tough spots for defenders.
Another player who stood out for Aston Villa was Leon Bailey. The Jamaican forward, who has struggled this season, managed to complete two out of four dribbles against Juventus’ Andrea Cambiaso. He also created two chances, including a near goal for John McGinn.
Motta recognized Bailey as a key threat for Villa but was pleased with how his team handled the situation. He noted that Bailey tried to use his speed against Cambiaso but that Juventus conceded very little.
Motta admitted that his team also created few chances but maintained a good balance to avoid giving Villa what they wanted. He mentioned a clear opportunity for Francisco that did not result in a goal. Overall, he felt it was a solid performance, and they would take the point as they continue to fight for qualification.
