Inter Milan’s Vice-President shares insights on the club’s approach to success and stability.
Zanetti spoke to Sky Sport Italia about the importance of financial stability. He noted that Inter has faced many challenges over the past decade, including changes in ownership and financial difficulties, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic. However, the club has started to regain stability in recent years.
The previous owners, Suning, began this process. They had to adopt a more disciplined financial model due to the pandemic’s impact. Earlier this year, US fund Oaktree Capital took over Inter from Suning after the latter defaulted on a loan related to the pandemic.
Under Oaktree’s ownership, the focus remains on financial discipline. Despite these challenges, Inter has continued to grow on the field. After several years without trophies, the team has won titles in the last four seasons, including two Serie A championships and a spot in the Champions League final.
Zanetti expressed optimism about the current season. He mentioned that the team’s performance has been very positive so far. The players are doing remarkable things in both the league and the Champions League. He praised the unity of the team, attributing it to the excellent work of the coach and his staff.
Reflecting on the club’s culture, Zanetti emphasized that they live in the present while always thinking about the future. He believes this mindset keeps the team competitive. Looking ahead, he mentioned a challenging match against Fiorentina in Serie A.
Zanetti acknowledged that playing in Florence is never easy. He pointed out that Fiorentina is on the same points total as Inter and is eager to compete at a high level. He anticipates a hard-fought match ahead for the Nerazzurri.
