Inter Milan’s President discusses recent transfer rumors involving Marco Verratti and Gianluigi Donnarumma, emphasizing the team’s current strength and their status as Serie A title favorites.
Marotta spoke to Sky Sport Italia before a match against Fiorentina. He mentioned that Inter is aware of being favorites for the Serie A title this season.
In recent days, surprising transfer rumors have emerged about Inter’s interest in high-profile players. Spanish media outlet Marca reported that Inter is interested in signing midfielder Marco Verratti.
Verratti, 32, currently plays for Al-Arabi in Qatar after moving from Paris Saint-Germain in the summer of 2023.
Additionally, there are rumors that Inter is monitoring Gianluigi Donnarumma, another Italian international. Donnarumma was part of the Italy team that won EURO 2020 and played alongside Verratti at PSG for two seasons.
However, reports suggest that Donnarumma is not completely satisfied at PSG. Inter might see him as a long-term replacement for their current goalkeeper, Yann Sommer.
When asked about the links to Verratti and Donnarumma, Marotta said it’s common for top clubs to be associated with great players who might leave at the end of the season.
He reassured fans that the current squad is strong and meets the club’s goals. Marotta emphasized that they are not worried about filling any gaps in the team.
He also mentioned that the club’s sporting directors are always looking at potential market opportunities that fit their model. However, he clarified that they are not currently negotiating for any players.
Marotta also shared his thoughts on Inter’s position as favorites for the Serie A title. He expressed pride in representing a great club and acknowledged that they are the reigning champions.
He noted that it’s expected for them to be seen as favorites. While recognizing their status, Marotta also pointed out tough competition from teams like Napoli, who deserve to be at the top.
He insisted that several teams are capable of winning the title, but Inter will strive to win or at least compete until the end of the season.
