Coventry City has appointed Frank Lampard as head coach, aiming for better results.
Ogrizovic shared his thoughts with BBC CWR, saying, “It’s quite an ambitious appointment. I believe there will be enough funds to improve the team.” He also mentioned that club owner Doug King wants to get closer to the Premier League and sees Lampard as a key part of that plan.
Currently, Coventry is in 17th place in the Championship, just two points above the relegation zone. Many fans are unsure about Lampard’s abilities, but Ogrizovic feels he deserves time to prove himself. He said, “People need to respect what he has achieved as a player and a manager.”
Ogrizovic pointed out that Lampard had a successful first job at Derby County and did well during his first time at Chelsea. However, his time at Everton has affected his reputation, along with a few games back at Chelsea.
Lampard’s first match in charge will be at home against Cardiff on Saturday. Ogrizovic is optimistic that Lampard can share his ideas effectively with the players. He stated, “I think we have a good, bright young manager. I’m impressed when I hear him on TV. He understands the modern game and will connect well with the players.”
Ogrizovic believes Lampard has a talent for explaining things clearly. He expressed surprise that this skill hasn’t led to better results so far. However, he added, “He hasn’t been a disaster. He has had some success, but people often focus on his time at Everton and the last few games at Chelsea, which isn’t entirely fair.”
