Edoardo Bove collapsed during a Serie A match, prompting immediate medical attention. The game was suspended and later abandoned, with Bove taken to the hospital for treatment.
His teammates quickly called for help and surrounded him as medical staff arrived. They treated Bove on the field before taking him away on a stretcher to an ambulance nearby.
The match was temporarily stopped and later abandoned, with plans to reschedule it for a later date. Sky Sport Italia reported that Bove was taken to Careggi hospital, which is close to Fiorentina’s home ground.
According to the broadcaster, Bove was breathing and his heart was beating on its own after the incident. His teammates and even players from the opposing team were visibly shaken and emotional, with some seen crying.
This incident brought back memories of past tragedies in football. In April, Roma defender Evan Ndicka collapsed during a match, and 12 years ago, Piermario Morosini died from cardiac arrest while playing in a Serie B game.
Both Inter and Fiorentina are currently near the top of the Serie A standings, trailing behind Napoli. Bove has been a key player for Fiorentina since joining on loan from Roma last summer. He scored his first goal for the team in October during a 5-1 win against Roma.
Fiorentina paid €1.5 million to loan Bove and has the option to make the deal permanent for an additional €10.5 million. The team and fans are hoping for a quick recovery for their young star.
