Amsterdam: Owen Wijndal, a player for Ajax, has expressed his satisfaction with coach Francesco Farioli. In a recent interview, he discussed his challenging season and how Farioli compares to his former coach, Arne Slot.
Wijndal enjoyed great success under Slot at AZ, where they finished second in the Eredivisie and reached the KNVB Cup quarter-finals. Although his time at Ajax has been tougher, he has been getting more playing time recently under Farioli.
He pointed out several similarities between the two coaches. Wijndal mentioned their tactical knowledge and their obsession with preparation. He noted that both coaches have a knack for predicting match outcomes.
“No matter who we faced at AZ, there was always a feeling of confidence. We were always well prepared. I feel the same way with Farioli,” he said.
Wijndal also highlighted how both coaches utilize full-backs in their strategies. He explained that both Slot and Farioli encourage full-backs to play inside and make overlapping runs.
He is not surprised by Slot’s success in the Premier League with Liverpool. “He’s doing well, isn’t he? I expected that,” Wijndal said. He acknowledged the differences between the Premier League and Eredivisie but expressed pride in Slot’s achievements.
“I follow his progress and feel grateful for the opportunities he gave me at AZ. We have a strong bond, and when we meet again, it will be great to catch up,” he added.
Wijndal’s reflections reveal the deep respect he has for both coaches and the impact they have had on his career.
