Eliesse Ben Seghir shares his close call with Marseille before thriving at AS Monaco, where he has become a key player with impressive stats this season.
He started his career at Monaco’s famous La Diagonale academy. However, he almost joined a rival club, Marseille. In an interview with Téléfoot, he shared that he was very close to signing with them.
Ben Seghir explained, “Before joining Monaco, Marseille was the club I was closest to joining. When Monaco calls, it’s hard to say no. My family also played a big role in my decision.”
He expressed no regrets about his choice, saying he is very happy at Monaco. His decision has paid off, as he is now a key player for both his club and the Moroccan national team.
Interestingly, Marseille does have a player named Ben Seghir, but it’s not Eliesse. His older brother, Salim Ben Seghir, is currently under contract with Marseille. Salim is on loan at Neuchatel Xamax in Switzerland.
Salim has made three appearances for Marseille and previously played for OGC Nice, where he had two first-team appearances. The Ben Seghir family is making its mark in football, with both brothers pursuing their dreams in different clubs.
