Dutch Clubs Face Mixed Results in Europa League Matches
Defeated Ajax in the top six, AZ mid-table and FC Twente in the top thirty: Europa League recap
Amsterdam: Several Dutch football clubs played in the Europa League on Thursday. Ajax, AZ Alkmaar, and FC Twente all had different outcomes in their matches.

Ajax faced Real Sociedad in Spain and lost 2-0. This was Ajax’s first European defeat this season. They had a strong start, with Chuba Akpom almost scoring early on. However, Brian Brobbey missed a big chance by hitting the post. The first half ended without any goals, despite a penalty shout from Sociedad.

In the second half, Ajax’s Brobbey had to leave the game due to a possible concussion. The match became more balanced, with Kian Fitz-Jim hitting the post for Ajax. Real Sociedad then took control, scoring their first goal through Ander Barrenetxea. Takefusa Kubo added a second goal shortly before the end, sealing Ajax’s defeat.

Ajax is now in sixth place in their group. They still have matches against Lazio and Galatasaray at home, and an away game against RFS from Latvia. Their next Eredivisie match is against Nijmegen.

AZ Alkmaar played against Galatasaray and managed to earn a point. They scored the fastest goal in their European history just over a minute into the game. Sven Mijnans was quick to convert a rebound after a shot from Seiya Maikuma.

However, they conceded a goal just before halftime when Victor Osimhen’s header crossed the line. In the second half, Galatasaray put pressure on AZ, but the young team held on for a draw. AZ is currently in 19th place in the standings, with two wins, one draw, and two losses. Their next match is against Heracles.

FC Twente had a tough match against Union Saint Gilloise, losing 1-0 at home. Due to UEFA sanctions, the stadium was partially empty. Union thought they scored early, but the goal was ruled offside.

Five minutes later, Mohammed Fuseini scored for Union, putting Twente behind. Twente struggled to respond, and an injury to their goalkeeper allowed for a break to regroup. Coach Joseph Oosting made several substitutions at halftime, which led to some chances for Twente.

Despite their efforts, Twente could not find the equalizer. The fans urged the team on, but Twente remains winless in the Europa League. They have tough matches ahead against Olympiakos, Malmo FF, and Besiktas. Their next Eredivisie game is against Go Ahead Eagles.
