Andreas Christensen is focused on recovering and staying with FC Barcelona amid speculation.
There have been rumors about his future at the club. Reports suggested that manager Hansi Flick might not want him in the team anymore. Because of this, it was said that Barcelona could sell him. Christensen’s contract runs until 2026.
In an interview with TV Sport 2, Christensen made it clear that he wants to stay at Barcelona. He is not thinking about leaving, despite the rumors. He said, “You can’t do anything but smile when you hear about it.”
He also mentioned that the club has only told him to focus on recovering. They are looking forward to his return. When asked if he would stay at Barcelona, he confidently replied, “Yes, of course.”
Once he is back, Christensen will face tough competition for a starting spot. Inigo Martinez and Pau Cubarsi have been playing very well. Ronald Araujo is also close to returning from his injury.
Christensen acknowledged that it will be challenging to regain his place. He said, “They’ve done incredibly well, and it’s up to me to beat them.” His main goal is to come back and play as much as he can.
He can also play as a defensive midfielder, a position he played last season. However, he has not had the chance to play there under Hansi Flick. He only played 26 minutes in the first La Liga match against Valencia.
Christensen believes he could be a good option for the team in that role. He said, “I haven’t spoken to him about tactical matters for a while, but I played six games in pre-season.” However, he prefers to play as a central defender, which is where he expects to play mostly.
