Chris Wood supports his manager’s choices after a recent match against Arsenal.
The reason for his limited playtime was his recent travel for international games. Wood had just returned from New Zealand, where he played in World Cup qualifiers. He scored two goals in a big win against Vanuatu and netted a hat-trick in another match against Samoa.
The long journey of about 22,000 miles between Nottingham and Auckland meant Wood needed some rest. He understands why the manager made that choice. “It’s the way the manager wanted it,” Wood said before the upcoming game against Ipswich.
He expressed his trust in the manager’s decisions, saying, “I trust what he says and does.” Wood believes the manager has earned that trust from both him and the club. Although the team lost, he feels it’s important to support the manager’s plans for the team.
Wood also mentioned his love for playing for New Zealand. He is excited about the upcoming World Cup qualifiers in March, which will be crucial for their chances to qualify for the World Cup. He sees these matches as important for New Zealand football and is committed to giving his best effort.
He has also played in the United States against teams like Mexico and the USA. Recently, he scored in a match against Tahiti, helping his team win 3-0. Wood has learned how to recover well after long travels and games.
He appreciates the support from the team’s physiotherapists and understands how to manage his body during international play. “I’ve done it for long enough. I know how to do it,” he said. He feels comfortable adjusting to different time zones and does not see it as a problem unless he arrives just before a game.
