Jamie Carragher now believes Manchester United will finish outside the top six this season.
Currently, Manchester United is in 12th place after 12 games. They are six points away from the top four, which makes it hard for them to qualify for the Champions League next season. Their coach, Ruben Amorim, is eager to improve the team’s standing, but Carragher is not optimistic.
Carragher expressed his thoughts on Sky Sports, saying, “I made a big mistake by predicting Manchester United would finish fifth. I don’t think they can even make it to the top six.” He feels that the teams currently in the top four are performing better and will likely stay ahead of United.
Despite this, Carragher mentioned that a top-six finish is still possible if Amorim can motivate the players effectively. The recent 3-2 win against Bodo/Glimt in the Europa League was a positive sign, showing that the team can improve under Amorim’s guidance. However, he noted that there is still a lot of work to do.
To compete for major trophies again, Manchester United may need to make significant changes to their squad. Carragher believes that the upcoming transfer windows might not be enough for Amorim to make all the necessary adjustments. Last season, they finished eighth after a third-place finish the year before.
While Amorim has not had enough time to implement his style, Carragher thinks that finishing in the top six is still possible this season. The coach will be hoping for better results as the season progresses. Fans will be watching closely to see if the team can turn things around.
