England and the United States played to a goalless draw, showcasing strong defenses and missed opportunities.
The first half was competitive, but neither team created many clear chances. The United States had a few opportunities, but England’s goalkeeper, Mary Earps, was in great form. She made a fantastic diving save to stop a shot from Alyssa Thompson early in the game and later blocked another attempt from Casey Krueger.
As the second half began, the Americans seemed more confident. Captain Lindsey Horan scored a goal, but it was ruled offside. She had another chance soon after but missed the target, dragging her shot wide. England then tried to push forward, getting into some dangerous areas, but they couldn’t get past U.S. goalkeeper Alyssa Naeher.
In the 65th minute, England faced a scare when a penalty was awarded for a handball by Alex Greenwood. However, after a review with VAR, the decision was overturned, allowing England to breathe a sigh of relief.
England’s coach, Sarina Wiegman, made substitutions, bringing in Chloe Kelly and Fran Kirby to try and secure a win. Despite their efforts, the Lionesses couldn’t create any significant chances, and the match ended without any goals.
Looking ahead, England will play Switzerland in another friendly match on Tuesday evening at Bramall Lane in Sheffield. Fans will be eager to see if the team can find their scoring touch in the upcoming game.
