Bologna: Riccardo Calafiori is feeling honored after being named in the Serie A Team of the Year. He had an extraordinary season with Bologna and shared his feelings on social media.
Calafiori, a former Bologna player, received this honor at the Gran Galà del Calcio. He was recognized alongside his old teammate Joshua Zirkzee, who now plays for Manchester United.
In his Instagram post, Calafiori expressed his gratitude. He shared a picture of himself with the award and wrote, “It is an honor for me to receive this award and be placed in the Serie A 2023-24 Team of the Year.”
He also thanked his teammates, the coaching staff, the fans, and Bologna’s management. He said, “Together, we have built something extraordinary, and this recognition is also dedicated to them. I’ll never forget you.”
Last season, Calafiori made 30 appearances for Bologna, scoring two goals and providing five assists. His contributions helped the team finish fifth in the league.
This achievement allowed Bologna to qualify for the Champions League for the first time in over 60 years, marking a significant milestone for the club.
Calafiori transferred to Arsenal for €50 million last summer. He has quickly become a regular starter, making 13 appearances and scoring one goal for the team.
At the Gran Galà del Calcio, defending Serie A champions Inter Milan had a strong presence. Seven of their players were included in the Team of the Year, featuring stars like Marcus Thuram and last season’s top scorer Lautaro Martinez.
