Berlin: The DFL has revealed a new national TV rights deal for the Bundesliga. This deal will start with the 2025-26 season and continue until the 2028-29 season.
This announcement is significant for German football, as it will generate €1.121 billion each season for all 36 clubs in the Bundesliga and 2.Bundesliga. This total adds up to €4.484 billion when combined with international rights.
For fans outside of Germany, the impact may be minimal. In the US, ESPN currently broadcasts the games, while DAZN covers Canada. In the UK, Sky Sports has the rights, but their contract ends soon, raising hopes for better coverage.
Sky Germany will have the most extensive coverage, showing every 2.Bundesliga game and all Bundesliga matches from Friday to Saturday’s TopSpiel. DAZN will retain the Sunday games, but a major change is the Konferenz program moving from Sky to DAZN.
The Konferenz program is popular as it covers all Bundesliga games on Saturday afternoons, providing updates on goals and other important events. It has been a part of Sky’s offerings since the Bundesliga’s early days.
ARD and ZDF will continue to provide free highlights of Bundesliga matches on Saturday evenings. ARD will show the highlights first on their Sportschau program, while ZDF will air them later on Aktuelle Sportstudio.
Additionally, the Saturday night game in the 2.Bundesliga will shift from Sport1 to RTL, marking another change in the broadcasting landscape.
This new deal highlights the growing value of football broadcasting rights in Germany, positioning the Bundesliga as a strong competitor to leagues like the Premier League.
