Bruno Labbadia is close to becoming Hamburg’s head coach again after recent talks.
Labbadia has been without a coaching job since he was fired by VfB Stuttgart in April 2023. He was also in talks to become the head coach of Nigeria, but that deal did not go through. Now, he is focused on returning to Hamburg, where he sees a lot of potential in the team.
The Darmstadt native previously managed Hamburg in 2016, where he had a record of 1.20 points per game. Before that, he coached the team from 2009 to 2010, achieving a better average of 1.63 points per game. His past experiences with the club may influence his return.
However, some fans and experts are questioning if bringing Labbadia back is a good decision. After Baumgart’s departure, many believe that hiring Labbadia might not be the best move for Hamburg. His recent management record has not been strong, especially compared to the success of his replacement at Stuttgart, Sebastian Hoeneß.
If Hamburg hopes to compete for promotion, it may depend more on the players’ abilities rather than Labbadia’s coaching skills. The club had also considered other candidates like Urs Fischer and Raphaël Wicky, who might have been better choices. However, the connection between sporting director Stefan Kuntz and Labbadia seems to have influenced this decision.
There is a possibility that by the end of the season, Labbadia may not remain as head coach. The situation is still developing, and fans are eager to see how it unfolds.
