Stade Brestois faced RC Strasbourg Alsace, showcasing experience over youth in a thrilling match.
In the first half, Strasbourg had the ball most of the time, holding 64% possession. However, they struggled to make any real attacks against Brest. The home team, known as Les Pirates, pressed hard and forced mistakes, leading to an early goal.
A handball by Guela Doué in the penalty area was spotted by VAR. The referee reviewed the play and awarded a penalty. Kenny Lala took the penalty kick, waiting for the goalkeeper, Petrović, to move. Lala shot low to the right, scoring the first goal.
Brest kept up the pressure throughout the half. Romain Faivre created chances but was denied by Petrović. A clever flick from Faivre found Mathias Pereira Lage, whose shot deflected off Petrović and almost went in, but VAR saved Strasbourg from conceding again.
Before the half ended, Pereira Lage scored. Julien Le Cardinal sent a long ball that Pereira Lage received after a clever dummy by Mama Baldé. He shot from outside the box, giving Brest a 2-0 lead.
In the second half, Strasbourg struggled again. Massadio Haïdara was fouled in the box, leading to a penalty for Ludovic Ajorque. However, Petrović saved the shot, which shifted the game’s momentum. Strasbourg began to play better and put pressure on Brest.
Young players Andrey Santos and Diego Moreira started to create chances, making it difficult for Brest. With five minutes left, substitute Abdoul Ouattara scored, combining well with Sebastian Nanasi in a crowded box.
Strasbourg’s hope faded in injury time when Brest’s Romain Del Castillo found space and scored, sealing the victory for Brest. The match ended with a score of 3-1, leaving Strasbourg to reflect on their ongoing struggles.
