FLORENCE: Edoardo Bove collapsed during a Serie A match between Fiorentina and Inter. The incident happened on Sunday at Stadio Artemio Franchi. He was quickly taken to Careggi Hospital for medical checks.
Giovanni Ghini, the President of Fratellanza Militare, shared how his team responded to the emergency. He noted that everyone around was anxious, but his team remained focused and calm. They knew exactly what to do.
“Only 30 seconds passed from the moment Bove collapsed to when we arrived,” Ghini explained. His team had two groups ready at the stadium, one with a doctor and two rescuers, and the other with three rescuers.
When the doctor reached Bove, he checked his vital signs, consciousness, breathing, and heart rate. After assessing the situation, he decided that Bove needed immediate hospital care. Within four minutes, Bove was in the ambulance.
In just 13 minutes after his collapse, Bove arrived at Careggi Hospital, which is about 6 kilometers from the stadium. Ghini mentioned that they used a semiautomatic defibrillator to help restore Bove’s heartbeat.
“We continued treatment during the ride to the hospital,” Ghini added. Once they arrived, the doctor briefed the hospital staff on what had happened and the actions taken.
Ghini also pointed out that the ambulance could not drive onto the pitch. This was to prevent delays that could occur if the vehicle got stuck in the grass. “We have an emergency plan to avoid any slowdowns,” he said.
Instead, they brought the necessary equipment onto the field to perform initial assessments before moving Bove to the ambulance. This quick response was crucial in saving his life.
