Bologna’s coach celebrates Dan Ndoye’s goal breakthrough, hoping for more scoring from the team.
Bologna had lost to Lazio in Serie A and Lille in the Champions League. They struggled to score goals again, but they got two penalties and Ndoye’s third goal came from a great assist by Riccardo Orsolini.
Italiano expressed his satisfaction with the team’s response after the defeats. He said this game was crucial for their confidence and their position in the league. He was pleased to see Ndoye score and Orsolini contribute as well.
He mentioned that if they had lost again, it would have hurt their morale. Thanks to this victory, he believes they are ready for the upcoming Coppa Italia match.
Bologna will play Monza in the Coppa Italia Round of 16 on Tuesday. They will also face Juventus in Serie A next Saturday.
Bologna still has a game to play against Milan, which was postponed due to flooding. They currently have 21 points from 13 Serie A matches, which is a solid performance.
This is especially impressive compared to their Champions League results, where they only earned one point and scored one goal in five matches. Italiano noted that with games every three days, they need to learn during matches since there’s little time for training.
He saw improvement in the second half of the game against Venezia. The team regained possession and played better. However, he acknowledged they need to score more goals given their chances.
Last season, Bologna surprised everyone by finishing fifth in Serie A and qualifying for the Champions League. Italiano hopes they can maintain their position among the top teams this season.
He mentioned that they need to stay close to the top sides and aim for a strong finish in the first half of the season. The Champions League experience is helping the team grow, but they need to improve on small details to succeed.
Italiano believes that their performances in Europe have been good, but they often lose due to minor mistakes. They have caused problems for strong opponents and kept games competitive until the end.
With his two goals, Ndoye now has three Serie A goals in total. Thijs Dallinga is still looking for his first goal with Bologna. Italiano thinks Ndoye could have scored even more and needs to focus on training to improve his finishing.
He also believes Dallinga is becoming more active in the game and is confident he will score soon.
