Andreas Christensen plans to remain with Barcelona despite injury and competition for his position.
In a recent interview with Danish TV channel TV2, Christensen mentioned that he has not discussed leaving or staying with the club. There have been rumors about his potential exit as Barcelona seeks to improve its finances.
Christensen stated, “I can only talk about what the club has told me. They have only said that I am recovering well and are eager for my return to the field. Will I stay at Barcelona? Yes, of course.”
He has been sidelined since the first match of the season due to an Achilles tendon injury. His recovery has taken several months, and he recently had a minor procedure. With teammates Pau Cubarsi and Inigo Martinez performing well, he faces a challenge to regain his starting position.
“I know it will be tough. They have played incredibly well, and it’s up to me to earn my spot back. My main goal is to return and play as many matches as I can, but it will be challenging,” he added.
Last season, Christensen also played as a defensive midfielder under coach Xavi Hernandez. However, that role has been filled by Marc Casado this season.
“I haven’t talked to him (Flick) about tactics in a while, but I played six games in preseason. It could be an option for me, but I believe I will mainly play as a central defender, which is my preferred position.”
