Atalanta secured the win at Stadio Olimpico, thanks to De Roon’s deflected shot from the edge of the box. Nicolò Zaniolo added a late header from a corner taken by Juan Cuadrado, sealing the match for La Dea.
De Roon’s overall performance, along with the goal, led to his recognition as the Man of the Match. He humorously noted that he often joked about his teammate Charles De Ketelaere winning the award frequently, but now it was his turn to shine.
“It was a tough game today, very balanced,” De Roon said. He acknowledged that luck played a role in his goal due to the deflection. Despite facing one significant chance from Roma, he felt that Atalanta largely controlled the match and created several scoring opportunities.
With their current form, Atalanta is generating excitement about their title ambitions. They have won eight straight Serie A matches and are just one point behind league leaders Napoli. However, they remain focused on taking it one game at a time.
De Roon is eager for their next match against Milan. He was at risk of suspension due to a yellow card but managed to avoid it, allowing him to continue his streak of 20 consecutive appearances without missing a minute.
“I’m relieved I didn’t get a yellow card, especially after a silly one against Parma,” he said. De Roon is determined to play every match and feels in great shape as the season progresses.
