AS Monaco plans to write to UEFA about the referee’s performance in their recent match.
The referee, Rade Obrenovic, faced a lot of criticism from Monaco. One player, Alvaro Carreras, was already on a yellow card for a tackle. Later, he did not receive a penalty for a serious foul on Wilfried Singo. This decision angered the Monaco players.
Captain Denis Zakaria and vice-captain Thilo Kehrer were both given yellow cards for protesting against the referee’s calls. Singo, who did not argue with the referee, was also shown a yellow card for expressing his frustration. This situation made things worse for Monaco.
In the second half, Singo received a second yellow card and was sent off. Monaco’s manager, Adi Hütter, was upset and said, “There is never a yellow card for that.” He also received a yellow card at the end of the match as Benfica scored again, leading to Monaco’s first loss in the Champions League.
After the match, Hütter mentioned that he was shown a yellow card for asking the referee, “What are you doing?” He noted that the referee did not shake his hand after the game, which added to his frustration.
Hütter also expressed confusion about Zakaria’s yellow card. He pointed out that the rules allow the captain to speak to the referee. He said, “Denis is the captain, he can talk to the referee. I don’t understand the rule.”
Feeling frustrated with the referee’s behavior, Monaco plans to send a letter to UEFA. They want to address the referee’s actions, including his mocking gestures during the game. This situation has left the team feeling unfairly treated.
