Mikel Arteta warns Liverpool that the Premier League race is still open
Liverpool is leading the league, sitting eight points clear of Manchester City and nine points ahead of Arsenal. Arsenal shares 22 points with Chelsea, but Chelsea is in third place due to goal difference. This Sunday, Liverpool has a chance to increase their lead if they can beat City at Anfield.
Arteta reminded everyone of Arsenal’s past struggles, especially their collapse in March 2023 when they lost a similar lead to City. When asked about Arsenal’s chances to catch up, Arteta was thoughtful but firm. He acknowledged the difficulty of maintaining a lead over ten months, saying, “Everything has to go your way.”
He pointed out how quickly things can change in football. “When you think you have it, one day, plop, it collapses,” he said. He mentioned that injuries or unexpected results can turn the tide at any moment, and the team must be prepared for such challenges.
Despite Liverpool’s strong performance, Arteta has faith in his team’s ability to compete. He expressed confidence in Arsenal’s potential to close the gap. He also praised Manchester City, saying they deserve to win every match, even with injuries.
As Liverpool gears up for another important game, Arteta’s words highlight the tough nature of the Premier League. To keep their lead, Liverpool will need more than just talent; they will need resilience, luck, and constant focus.
