Liverpool: Arne Slot, the manager of Liverpool, made a lighthearted joke about Mohamed Salah’s recent comments. Salah suggested he might have played his last game against Manchester City at Anfield. This was linked to the possibility of City facing relegation due to financial rule-breaking allegations.
Salah, whose contract ends next summer, scored in Liverpool’s 2-0 victory over City. This win put Liverpool nine points ahead at the top of the Premier League. It was a significant match for both teams, especially for City, who have struggled recently.
Manchester City has lost six out of their last seven games. They are currently dealing with serious allegations, facing a hearing for 115 charges of financial irregularities. City denies any wrongdoing, but if they are found guilty, they could face severe consequences, including relegation.
After the match, Slot joked that Salah was hinting at City’s possible punishment rather than talking about his own contract situation. He said, “Maybe Mo knows more about the 115 charges, so he doesn’t expect them to be in the Premier League next season.”
Although Slot laughed, he quickly clarified that he expects City to remain in the Premier League. He emphasized that his comment was just a joke. He also mentioned that discussing Salah’s contract was not appropriate at that moment.
With this victory, Liverpool has become the favorite for the title. They now have a nine-point lead over Arsenal and Chelsea, while City is two points further behind. This is a remarkable turnaround for Liverpool, who are now in a strong position.
Slot has had an impressive start at Liverpool since taking over from Jurgen Klopp. He has won 18 out of his first 20 games in charge. However, he believes it is still too early in the season to discuss the title race seriously.
