Marc Pubill discusses his summer transfer talks with Barcelona and his current focus.
Pubill mentioned that Barcelona was very close to signing him. He explained that while they were interested, the deal did not go through due to financial issues at the club.
He said, “Yes, it was close. We knew it would be tough because of Barça’s fair play rules, and in the end, it didn’t happen, but it was close.”
Barcelona saw Pubill as a good option to replace Joao Cancelo, who was leaving the team. When asked if he was excited about Barcelona watching his progress, he replied, “Yes, it’s always exciting.”
After a busy summer, Pubill reflected on his feelings. He had just won an Olympic Gold medal with Spain and was linked to moves to both Atalanta and Barcelona. Eventually, he returned to play in the second division with Almeria.
He shared, “The first few days were tough for me. After winning gold and almost signing with Atalanta, it was hard to adjust to being back in the Second Division.”
Pubill is now focused on helping Almeria succeed. He expressed his happiness at the club and his determination to bring them back to a higher level.
Despite playing in the second division, his strong performances suggest he may soon attract interest from bigger clubs. It will be interesting to see if Barcelona continues to monitor his progress as the season goes on, possibly leading to a move in the summer of 2025.
