Currently, it seems like every Premier League team has a former Arsenal goalkeeper. This is why it’s not surprising that half of the nominees for this month’s award are ex-Gunners.
The Premier League announced the nominees on Thursday. First on the list is Aaron Ramsdale, who now plays for Southampton. He made a fantastic save against Michael Keane’s header for Everton, pushing the ball onto the post and preventing it from crossing the line.
Next is Lukasz Fabianski from West Ham United. He made an impressive save with his fingertips, stopping a curling shot from Nottingham Forest’s Ramon Sosa.
The third nominee is Bernd Leno, who plays for Fulham. He made a crucial save against Fabio Carvalho, stopping a close-range shot that could have given Brentford the lead.
Unfortunately, there were no nominations for Emi Martinez from Aston Villa, Matt Turner from Crystal Palace, or David Raya. If they had been nominated, it could have been a clean sweep for former Arsenal goalkeepers.
David Raya had previously won the award in August for an incredible reaction save against Aston Villa. He stopped a diving header from Ollie Watkins while on the ground, showcasing his quick reflexes.
Though Raya didn’t receive a nomination this time, he has already made a strong case for December with a great save against Matthijs de Ligt’s header on Wednesday.
